Summer-Time Fitness
It’s July, lots of people are on vacation, there are lots of movies opening this month and in general, people are going out more. It’s a great time to spend with your friends and family. There’s no reason that you can’t have a ton of fun and lose weight effortlessly.
Whether or not you’ve reached the fitness goals you’ve set out for yourself, it’s important to prepare for success. If you’re going out to eat, avoid fast-food. Even the salads. Find a good locally owned restaurant to eat at. Not only will you get better service, but you’ll most likely have a better selection of healthy foods.
If you’re expecting to have a high-glycemic meal, have a low-glycemic snack before-hand. This will “slow-down” the high-glycemic meal, and minimize the sugar spike. If you’re going to the movies, eat before you go. You’ll save some money and improve your health. A small popcorn has as much saturated fat as a double cheeseburger with 8 slices of bacon!

Begin a New Healthy Lifestyle
If you’ve ever lost weight on a diet, only to gain it back, you are NOT ALONE!
Your diet has failed you. Diets fail 98% of the time, so what do you do when you can’t lose weight?
There are three principles that you need to apply in order to achieve healthy permanent weight loss.
- Healthy (low glycemic) Eating
- Nutritional Supplementation
- Moderate Exercise
Low glycemic eating will start your body on the right path. Immediately after your first low glycemic meal, your body will begin to become more sensitive to insulin. Eventually, you will lose weight without really trying. It IS important that you don’t go hungry. Have lots of low glycemic snacks available, and eat 6 smaller meals. With a well thought-out low glycemic meal plan, you can lose 5-7 pounds of fat in a week.
Eating low glycemic foods means that you’ll automatically be eating fewer calories and less food. This being the case, you will need to be taking advanced high-quality nutritional supplements. In clinical trials, high quality multi-vitamins have been shown to significantly improve insulin sensitivity. Insulin sensitivity is key to your success.
Moderate exercise means slightly more that what you are doing right now. If you aren’t exercising at all, then a 15 minute brisk walk will do. Moderation is the key. If you have any doubts, ask your doctor to recommend some moderate exercises.
Using these principles, I lost 60 pounds in 9 months. Gloria, a friend of mine, lost 38 pounds and this past January, one of my clients lost 18 pounds in two weeks.
The 3 Reasons Diets Fail – Part 3
Reason 3: Diets don’t address insulin-resistance.
Your body needs glucose (sugar) to live.
Your body converts the foods you eat into glucose.
Different foods convert at different speeds. The faster a food is converted to glucose, the faster it gets into your blood. Foods that convert very quickly are considered high-glycemic. This can be measured by the Glycemic Index (GI).
When you eat a meal that is high glycemic, your blood sugar goes up very rapidly and your body responds by releasing insulin, which stores the excess sugar (glucose) as fat. Your blood glucose levels go down almost as fast as they went up, and you get an uncontrollable hunger for another high glycemic meal. Diets fail because they don’t address this!
The 3 Reasons Diets Fail – Part 2
Reason 2: Diets are unbalanced.
Diets focus on the new “bad” thing that’s “making you fat” and cut it out. Fat. Carbs. Protein. The reality is that your body NEEDS fat, carbs and protein in order to live.
With the right types of fat, carbs, and proteins, in the correct balance, you can actually lose weight without trying!

Reason 1: Diets are a short-term solution to a long-term problem.
Do you know anyone that has ever failed on a diet?
Fad diets revolve around the instant gratification that many people crave. Consumers in the United States spend more than $30 Billion a year on diet products.
Gaining weight is a process that takes years and even decades to occur, so it stands to reason that a two week fad diet will not reverse 10-20 years of bad eating habits.
A healthy lifestyle changes are required to achieve a permanent healthy weight.
We are bombarded by images on TV, magazines and the internet of what the “ideal” body is. Meanwhile we see commercials, billboards, radio, TV and internet ads hyping the latest diet product that will fail 98% of people that try it.
Why Do Diets Fail?
Statistically
two-thirds of people that lose weight on diets will gain it back in a year, and 98% will gain all the weight back and more within 2 years. Most people know this.
Your diet has failed you! If 98% of people failed in school, people would stop sending their kids to school. So, why do diets fail and why do Americans spend over $30 Billion a year on diet products?
The better question is: ”Why do 2% of diets succeed?”
Do people lose weight by dieting and exercising? Sure! Many people can lose 5-7 pounds in a week or two. But almost all of them will plateau and not lose any more weight. Those that do continue to lose weight, will do so with increased effort for reduced results.
When you are eating a high sugar (high glycemic) diet and then suddenly cut carbohydrates, fats, or proteins from your diet, your body can’t get the energy it needs from food. Instead it will consume the 5-7 pounds of glycogen stores your body has on hand at any given time. I’ve heard this incorrectly referred to as “water-weight”.
Once the glycogen is gone, if you continue depriving your body of carbs, fats or proteins, it will start consuming fat and muscle at the same rate. The effect is that you lose weight, but your body fat percentage remains the same.
I know this, because it happened to me!!!
I did this for over 3 months. I lost a few pounds, but I was constantly hungry and I was losing my strength. That’s when I resolved to find a way to lose weight permanently, without yo-yo dieting or going hungry. In short, I wanted a health lifestyle change.
